Harrow Lake by Kat Ellis

HARROW LAKE BY KAT ELLIS

 4/5 stars

Harrow Lake is packed full of the peculiar and strange.

This book was...interesting. I wouldn't say that it was one of my favourites necessarily, but it was very dark and creeping and I'm glad I got a taste for a kind of psychological YA horror novel.

Lola Nox is the daughter of the famous Nolan Nox, who shot the film Nightjar in Harrow Lake, a town where her mother Lorelei who abandoned her five years ago grew up. When Nolan is attacked in their New York apartment, shortly before leaving for Paris, Lola is forced to leave New York and go to her grandmother in Harrow Lake.

When she arrives, the people around her tell stories about a man they refer to as Mister Jitters, who causes people to go missing and then eats their bones. She tries to convince herself that it's utter rubbish...until she begins to sense him close by.

It is quite easy to see why this book got quite a lot of buzz around it - it's unlike most YA I've ever read. Kat Ellis is also a new author to me, even though Harrow Lake is her fourth novel.

I liked the way the book was covered in secrets, the plot and the way it was written. However, the...shall we say plot twist at the end I found a bit too predictable for my liking.

This book is perfect for horror fans of all ages, despite being pitched as a novel for younger readers.

Would I recommend to a friend? /// Yes.
